Manuel Joachim Alexis Mahé has recently retired to focus full time on his music. His latest track “New One” reflects this decision to make a change in his life.
How did you get started, and what has led up to where you are today as an artist?
After a long period without musical production, I had the good fortune to acquire an Arturia musical keyboard on corporate culture kadeos. That’s where I got back into music.
Who do you feel has influenced your sound the most?
To be honest with you, physics and electronics greatly influence my sound. From a strictly musical point of view, the tempo also interferes with my choice of sounds. On the other hand, I was strongly impressed on these criteria by contemporary musicians like Jean Michel Jarre and Christophe. But the basis of all these technical influences is still classical music.
What do you feel sets you apart from other artists and gives you your own sound?
It’s my inspiration, my influences, my state of mind at the time of my compositions, my desire for public distribution or not. For me, it is also to make me happy and to give pleasure. You have certainly noticed that I did not take an artist’s name but that I exercise my real identity. I think that in no way distorts what I am and that all my influences and my moods are then really palpable.
What has been your biggest challenge and what do you feel you have learned from it?
My biggest challenge was not to take the big head. I knew the musical world and the scene when I was young. In this carefree youth the “Highway Star” is the easy focus. Fame, popularity, fortune, the high life of sorts. But at my age, all that seems to be in the past tense. I am satisfied with what is possible to do at 62 years old.
Tell us about your latest project, what have you got going on at the moment?
My latest project has already been completed and that’s what I came to talk to you about. Christic dance(New version of Danse christique). Why this new version? Because Christ Dance is not the original version of this musical composition. The very first version was titled “Why the war?”, but the video of this title was deleted by YouTube for incitement to hatred??? As a result, this title became “Danse christique”…it sounds cooler!
By the way, with your permission, you can access the video of the original title here:

I wanted a more substantial version of Danse christique, but also to help in my own way the Ukrainian girl who made and performed the choreography of the original title. You know, there’s nothing funny about noticing distress and not being able to do anything. As a result, on the video of this new version, the choreography has been deleted.
What advice would you give to anyone new coming into the industry?
To show off, to do what she wants and not to stand still.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank for getting you to where you are now, anyone you’d like to give a shout-out to?
Yes, to Rock & Folk, to the classifieds manager who doesn’t seem to read the mail we send him. I made a mistake by sending a misspelled word. My request for correction or removal went unanswered. It’s not good at all and far from being sold.
How can fans find you?
Priority on Spotify, but also on YouTube, amazon and other online music stores. As for social networks, I’m on Twitter, Facebook and ok.ru, that’s enough!
Please don’t come to my house, my house is haunted!
